I Have Been Thinking...
I have been thinking how much I enjoy being a two country person when it comes to holidays. Between Mexico and the US we have a reason to celebrate every few weeks. This week alone we celebrated the Day of Revolution on Monday and Thanksgiving on Thursday. Over the next few weeks there are lots more coming including Three Kings Day on January 6th. Reason 52 for being thankful to be in Mexico: Lots of Celebrations.
I have been thinking that Mexico is infested with missionaries and not necessarily the variety that make us happy. We regularly see two men dressed in white shirts and ties walking along the streets of Cuernavaca. Yes, Mormon missionaries. In conversation class a few weeks back Diana and I talked with a nun who is here from India. But the other day in line at the grocery store topped it all off. There beside me was a Hare Krishna missionary. I discovered that he is here from Italy with his wife and three children and operates a vegetarian restaurant near our school. Heeeeeeeeeelp!
I have been thinking that the weather here is very unpredictable. I was expecting warmth in Mexico but last week was freezing by Cuernavaca standards. We had to make a run to Home Depot to purchase a couple of space heaters. By mid-day it’s all warm again and we are in short sleeves.
I have been thinking about family during the holidays. It is no easy feat for them to give up brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, children and grandchildren. Surely there must be a reward awaiting them, special grace and blessings to you all.
I have been thinking about what Scripture might effectively penetrate the hearts of people who have a deep tradition and devotion to God, Christ, Mary, salvation and the church. Yet people have been deceived, trapped and left with emptiness. One that has come to mind recently is Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
